The New York Islanders gave a BIG BOOST to their defensive squad today!

Boston Bruins Salary Cap Issues

Johnny Boychuk Hoisting Stanley Cup

Boychuk will bring much needed experience to the Islanders

With the signing of Torey Krug and Reilly Smith a few weeks ago, the Bruins had to clear some space on their salary cap so they needed to get rid of a big contract. Johnny Boychuk was being chased by 9 teams in the league but it’s the Islanders that was able to catch him. It cost them 2 second round draft picks and a conditional third round draft pick.

Johnny Boychuk is a solid veteran d-men that got 23 points last year and takes around 3,3 million on the salary cap.

Nick Leddy Puzzle

The Nick Leddy deal was madeĀ for the same reason, the Chicago Blackhawks where over the salary cap and needed to clear some space before the start of the season next week. To get Nick Leddy Islanders had to give Finnish prospect Ville Pokka, defencemen Terrance James “T.J.” Brennan and the goaltender Anders Nilsson.

Nick Leddy is a 23 years old two way defense with 31 points last year and using 2.7 millions on the cap space.

The Islanders were far from being cup contenders, they still are but they’re improving their chances at making the playoffs with this improve defensive squad.
